Golf Road Warriors Take On Old Corkscrew, Estero, Near Fort Myers
Video Description:
For a Nicklaus course, Old Corkscrew, about a half hour's drive southeast of Fort Myers is reasonably fair. But I say again, it's a Nicklaus course so when we say fair, that places it somewhere between the upper echelons of fractious and the lower levels of forgiveness. Let's put it this way; when we were about to tee up it was rather pointedly 'suggested' that the white's would suit us fine enough. At 6262 yards, we rapidly discovered we needed that little boost of forgiveness at the beginning of each hole. This Jack Nicklaus Signature track is carved out of a wonderful native setting - just how Old Florida must have appeared to its first visitors, acres of mature oak, pine and cypress trees with nary a human dwelling within an eagle's eye view. What's also remarkable is how each hole stands out. There are 18 unique signatures here that present fresh challenges to every swing. The fairways are firm, the greens raised and arranged to exert maximum pressure for the all important approach shots, designed to disquiet even the most steady-handed. Old Corkscrew is one of the most spine-tingling courses to play and to appreciate for its superlative condition and super-natural setting as well as the trough of lightening it throws at you.
