By Dave Daubert
The beautiful Meadows Country Club located in Sarasota, Florida and ICON Management Services are excited to welcome Tony Johnson, a PGA professional and Past-President of the North Florida PGA, to the team as General Manager. Johnson comes with an exceptional background in the golf industry and has been actively involved for over 30 years. He is a graduate from the University of South Florida in Tampa with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and entered the golf business in 1990.
The Meadows membership is honored to have someone with Tony's extensive experience in golf course operations join the team at the Club. Johnson is also a member of the North Florida PGA Section Hall of Fame. A good friend for many years, Tony was General Manager at Timaquan Golf Club in Lake Mary, Florida for 10 years. He has managed multiple clubs across the country with experience in the private, resort and public sectors. His most recent position was Vice President of Operations for a Florida based management company.
Tony is a real people-person driven to create memorable experiences for members, guests, clients and the staff. He puts a high priority on creating a culture of excellence through a healthy teamwork environment inspiring others through collaborative and open communication, and values faith, family and a work-life balance to maximize efficiency to create member and guest service levels that make everyone feel welcome. Tony enjoys mentoring others and public speaking, so much so he states "I never met a microphone I didn't love!" He is really excited to get to work and meet the staff and members at the Meadows Country Club. Currently, the administrative offices are open by appointment only due to covid-19, but you can call Tony at 941-371-6000.
Tony's favorite past times are golfing, exercising, the beach and mostly spending time with his wife of 26 years, Lori, and their three beautiful children(Alexa, Caleigh, and Anthony). He is very active in his community serving his church and charity organizations.
Meadows Country Club
Located just off of I-75 and about 3 miles from downtown Sarasota, the Meadows Country Club is a vibrant gated community nestled in a lush 330-acre campus consisting of three distinctive golf courses, a 17 Har-Tru court tennis complex with the Center Court Lounge serving lunch and dinner, pickleball courts, a junior Olympic swimming pool and a 5,000 square foot fitness and wellness center complete with a Titlist Performance Institute. There are 14 miles of oak-canopied hiking, nature walking and biking trails at the Meadows.
The center of Meadows' lifestyle activity is the magnificent two-story clubhouse with its formal Regency Ballroom on the second floor, providing ample area for family gatherings up to 220, special events for members and luxurious dining. Downstairs the Fountain View Lounge and Deck are the gathering places for daily dining and after-golf refreshments.
The diversity of the three golf courses is significant. The Meadows course is the private members' layout which is closing until November 2020 for a complete redo. The semi-private Highlands championship par 72 layout is bordered by mature oaks throughout its 6,500+ yards with water playing a significant role on 14 of the holes. The GPS in the carts can give players a fair warning where not to be. Both the Highlands and Groves play out of the same clubhouse with its own practice facilities. The Groves is an executive course with a par of 63 but plays more like a longer challenge due to its designer, Arthur Hills, who incorporated a certain degree of trouble lurking in its layout.
There is a special summer membership being offered from May 1 to October 31 for $495 for 2 adults and two children up to the age of 25 residing at the same home. Unlimited golf with seven day advanced tee times, paying only cart rentals. Walking both courses for $10 a day is also available. There is a $250 food & beverage fee requirement for the six months. Summer members will be allowed two complimentary rounds on the new Meadows course once it reopens. For more information on the membership please contact GBachner@theIconteam.com or call 941-378-5957.
