Legends Move 2014 Walgreens Tournament to Delray Beach

The LPGA Legends Tour's Walgreens Charity Championship will remain in the Sunshine State this year, but will move its tournament venue to The Seagate Country Club in Delray Beach.

Formerly known as the Hamlet Country Club, the completely renovated Seagate Country Club will play host Nov. 6-9, to the official LPGA tour for professionals age 45 and over. Last year's tournament was staged at The Villages in April, with Nancy Scranton winning the championship. Scranton plans to return to defend her title.

"The Legends Tour is honored to team up with Walgreens and The Seagate Hotel and Country Club in bringing this prestigious event to Delray Beach," said Jane Blalock, Legends Tour CEO. "Golf fans throughout Palm Beach County will be treated to quite a show with the return of LPGA greats to the area."

The 36-hole tournament will feature a field of 40 players. LPGA legends such as Nancy Lopez, Patty Sheehan, Pat Bradley, Beth Daniel, Betsy King, JoAnne Carner, Rosie Jones and Jan Stephenson remain active on The Legends Tour, which enters its 14th season in 2014.

"We are honored and excited to host the LPGA Legends Tour this November here in sunny Delray Beach at The Seagate Country Club," said Tony Wilson, chairman and CEO of Seagate Hospitality Group. "It's a privilege to host some of the greatest women golfers of all time, while also supporting their continual competitive golf careers."

Walgreens will continue its sponsorship with the official senior tour of the LPGA. The 2014 season marks the third year Walgreens has title-sponsored tournaments on the Legends Tour.

"Walgreens is proud to announce it will showcase the Legends of the LPGA in a key Florida market at a premier property - The Seagate Country Club in Delray Beach," said
Bryan Pugh, vice president of U.S. Merchandising Program Development and Execution for Walgreens.

"While last year's inaugural tournament held at The Villages was a tremendous success, we are excited to share these great players with enthusiastic fans on Florida's east coast in 2014. The tournament will once again feature a health and wellness expo as well as an on-course Walgreens 'Steps with Balance Rewards' initiative for the local community, and of course, great golf from the Legends" Pugh added.

The Seagate Country Club unveiled a full renovation of its 18-hole championship private golf course in November 2013. The original home of the first Golf Digest School, the club's seven-month renovation began in May 2013. Renovations preserved the original Joe Lee-design while modernizing and enhancing its condition. Restoration focused on the course's fairways, greens, bunkers and practice facilities, as well as modifications to several holes.
