Puma Spring 2017 Golf Apparel Review

Comfortable, Stylish and Colorful

By David Theoret

For Spring 2017, Puma has used their existing garment technology in several stylish garments for both men and women. Two men's polos that we saw, the Frequency and the Highlight Stripe, are deigned to not only keep your skin dry but also lower your body temperature as well.

Puma's PWRCOOL Frequency Golf Polo will add a dash of splash to any golfer's wardrobe. Not only does this polo offer UPF 40 protection from the sun's harmful rays, it has a couple of other Puma technologies at play as well. PWR COOL is a highly functional inner cooling print which reacts with moisture, helping you maintain an optimum body temperature. Puma's dryCELL technology wicks moisture away from the body keeping you dry and comfortable. But what sets this shirt apart is the all-over subliminal graphics on the front. The color combinations Puma uses stand out but not to the point of being obnoxious. Your partners are going to remember this polo. The Frequency Golf Polo is available in sizes S-XXL and in three colors: True Blue, Andean Toucan and Bright White (combined with a Rose color). Retail price is $70.

The Highlight Stripe Polo is a lightweight garment that offers 40+ UPF protection as well as Puma's proprietary dryCELL technology, which is designed to keep you cool on the course. This performance fitting garment has great moisture wicking properties and the 91% Polyester, 9% Elastane fabric moves with you with no pinch or bind. The blaze of color on the chest makes this polo stand out, even in the closet. The Cat logo on the left sleeve leaves no doubt as to whose brand you're wearing. The Highlight Stripe Polo is available in sizes S-XXL and in three color combinations: Bright White/Andean Toucan, Bright White/Blue Danube and Puma Black/Periscope which creates a slimming effect. Retail price is $65.00.

The Men's Essential Pounce Golf Pants are made for the golfer with an active lifestyle and easily go from the office to the first tee. This 100% Polyester fabric features Puma's dryCELL technology to keep you dry and comfortable throughout your round and the mechanical stretch fabric moves everywhere you do. The Pounce Golf Pants offer a performance fit, with a locking snap closure and gripper tape at the waistband to keep everything in place throughout the round. There's even a V-notch at the bottom hem to deliver a professional look over your golf shoes. There's an embroidered Cat logo above the back-left pocket. Puma's Essential Pounce Golf Pants are available in waist sizes 28-40 and in 4 colors: Quarry, Puma Black, Peacoat and White Pepper. Retail price is $80.00.

For spring and summer 2017, Puma introduces the Men's Hybrid Golf Short. Not only are these shorts going to elicit some stares, they also provide the ultimate in comfort, fit and performance. The 86% Polyester/14% Spandex fabric offers 4-way stretch and is super lightweight, you'll hardly know you've got them on (but good thing you do cause there's laws against that). Puma's dryCELL technology wicks moisture away from your body for quick evaporation, keeping you dry. The locking snap closure and gripper tape on the waistband see to it that these shorts stay put during your entire round and beyond. The Hybrid Short is available in sizes 28 - 40 and in three colors: Quarry, Puma Black and an eye-catching Andean Toucan (green). All three have a quasi-camo design. Retail price is a scant $70.

If playing in the wind is your thing, Puma's got you covered. The Ombre Wind Golf Jacket is a must have for guys that play in windy weather and need a thin layer of wind protection. The Ombre is made from a 61% Polyester, 39% Elastane fabric which gives it a relaxed and flexible fit. Puma's windCELL technology makes this piece water resistant, wind resistant and UV resistant and has moisture wicking properties to keep you dry even when it's not raining. The ventilation in the back aids in keeping your temperature down as well. This full-zip garment has waterproof zippers on both pockets to keep your valuables dry and Velcro on the cuffs create your perfect fit to keep out the elements. The cat logo is proudly displayed on the left chest. The Ombre Wind Golf Jacket is available in sizes S-XXL and only in black. Retail price is $100.

For the ladies, Puma's Bloom Stripe Sleeveless Polo is designed with a UV finish to keep you protected from the sun, while Puma's dryCELL technology pulls moisture away from the body, keeping you dry and comfortable. The 92% Polyester, 8% Elastane fabric gives women free range of motion and the performance fit is a figure flatterer. There's also a Puma Cat logo on the left chest. The floral print on the fabric creates almost a tie-dyed look and the vertical stripes only compliment the design. This sleeveless garment is sure to turn some heads. There's also a matching Bloom Golf Skirt that is the perfect pairing piece. The Bloom Stripe Sleeveless Polo is available in sizes XS-XL and in either Shocking Pink or True Blue. Retail price is $60.

The Bloom Golf Skirt is made from a 86% Polyester, 14% Spandex fabric for supreme fit and comfort. It features the same properties as the Sleeveless Polo and features an embroidered Cat logo on the bottom left hem. The Bloom Golf Skirt is available in sizes 0-14 and in two colors: Shocking Pink and Peacoat. Retail price is $75. Recently, Puma added the Bloom Golf Pant to the Bloom lineup. Same great fabric/technology as the Bloom Skirt, the pants are available in sizes 0 - 14 and in Peacoat. Retail price is $90.

The Knit Golf Skirt offers the ultimate in fit, yet delivers the freedom to move comfortable through your golf swing. The elastic waist band provides the snug fit athletic females are looking for and the 92% Polyester, 8% spandex fabric compliments a lady's figure. Puma's dryCELL provides great moisture wicking to keep you dry and comfortable and a UV resistant finish with a UPF 40+ rating protects even the palest of skin from the sun's harmful rays. The two side pockets and slip pocket in the back supply ample storage room for all of a lady's golf essentials and the Puma Cat logo on the left hem quickly identifies the brand. The Knit Golf Skirt is available in sizes XXS-XL and in Bright White, Puma Black, Atoll Blue, Shocking Pink and True Blue. At a retail price of $55, you can afford one in every color.

One piece that pairs nicely with the Knit Golf Skort is the Mesh Golf Polo. It offers an ultra-flattering performance fit and wicks moisture away quickly to keep you cool and dry on hot summer days. The mesh panel in the chest and back add extra breathability. This ultra lightweight garment features a self-collar and V-neck to aid in sun protection and the Cat logo on the left chest lets other golfers know your preferred brand. No matter how hot your game is, the Mesh Golf Polo will keep you calm, cool and collected on the course. Well, cool at least. The Mesh Golf Polo is available in sizes XS-XL and in Bright White, Royal Purple and Peacoat. Retail price is $55.

David Theoret David Theoret has been in the golf and golf travel industry for over 10 years, primarily selling online advertising. For the past seven years, he has also been a golf writer, reviewing golf courses, resorts, destinations, equipment, golf apparel, and training aids - the latter of which never seems to help. David's articles and reviews have been posted on many golf travel and equipment websites.

Growing up in Southwestern Ontario, Canada, it was naturally assumed he would play hockey. Beginning at the age of 3 and continuing into his late 30's, he did just that. However, after one too many pucks to the head, he realized that golf was a lot easier on the body (whoever said hockey players were slow) and took the game up.

After moving to Florida and accepting a position with TravelGolf Media (now part of GolfNow) his love for the game grew exponentially. Most Saturdays you will find him on a course somewhere in Florida or on the practice range reinforcing his bad habits. David plays to a 10 handicap - unless there is money involved in which case it goes considerably higher. He currently resides in Lakeland, FL with his wife Belinda and their two "kids", Madyson and Molly.
